Day in the life of a Data Entry Operator

A Data Entry Operator is an entry level position in the Information Technology sector. Accurate data entry is one of the most important factors in business to maintain records, increase productivity and managing information in the business. No matter what type of business you’re working in, there will always be a need for entering data in forms, documents, databases and records. Data entry will improve on overall productivity, operational profits and business efficiency by reducing errors, and data processing will help cut down on administrative burdens and save on costs and time.

As a Data Entry Operator, it will be your job to update and maintain information on computer systems and in archives and it is vital that this information is accurate and up to date. The type of information you will be dealing with depends on what company you are working for; if you are in sales, it could be sales data or information on new clients, if you are working in a research firm you might be involved in entering market research survey results.

Data entry is usually an office job where you will be working from 9am – 5am, standard weekly work hours. Full time and part time positions may be available, and there could also be some flexibility in your work hours. With a ICT20115 Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technology, you will gain the foundation skills and knowledge you need to use information and communication technology in any industry. You will learn how to use computer operating systems and hardware, use social media tools for collaboration and engagement, apply problem-solving techniques to routine ICT malfunctions, detect and protect from spam and destructive software and much more.

This qualification is delivered by Kirana’s Registered Training Organisation Maxis Solutions Pty Ltd RTO ID 91428 and can be completed between 6 and 12 months. You can undertake the course via a range of learning methods, including classroom, blended, workplace and RPL. Although there are no entry requirements, it’s preferred that students have obtained a minimum of a School Certificate or equivalent and it is suggested that students be able to access and use a personal computer including internet browser. The course also provides a pathway into a ICT20115 Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology at Kirana, where you can upskill your knowledge in IT and specialise in applications, network administration, support, web technologies or multimedia.
