Social Inclusion Week – Value of a Community Services qualification

It’s Social Inclusion Week from the 19th – 27th November! Celebrate with a course in the Community Services sector!

Social Inclusion Week was created by Dr Jonathon Welch AM to help ensure all Australians feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity to participate fully in society. Social Inclusion Week is celebrated in Australia between the 19th and 27th of November, and its theme is Collaborate, Connect and Celebrate. It’s about connecting with local communities, work mates, family and friends to build relationships and networks, addressing isolation and exclusion by supporting people who may be unable help themselves.

One powerful way of supporting Social Inclusion Week is by embarking on a career in the Community Services sector. Kirana Colleges offer a number of courses in this sector, including; the Certificate II in Community Services the Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community) and the Diploma of Community Services.

The Certificate II in Community Services will give you the skills to help support the people around you, including individual experiencing issues with alcohol or drugs. You could choose this course if you currently work or volunteer in a community services environment and don’t have the formal recognition. You will learn how to; communicate and work in health or community services; participate in workplace health and safety; organise and complete daily work activities; and more. This course can be completed in 6 – 12 months and is delivered by Kirana Colleges’ Registered Training Organisations; Kirana Training Pty Ltd RTO ID 52247 and Access Training Institute Pty Ltd RTO ID 91498. The course is undertaken via different learning methods, including blended, classroom, online and workplace. Once you complete the course, you will be able to undertake a career as an assistant community services worker, care service employee or customer service staff, amongst many opportunities.

The Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community) will give you the knowledge and practical experience to work with a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support. You will learn how to; communicate and work in health or community services; provide individualised support; facilitate the empowerment of older people; and more. This course can be completed in 12 – 18 months and is delivered by Kirana Colleges’ Registered Training Organisation; Access Training Institute Pty Ltd RTO ID 91498. The course is undertaken via different learning methods, including classroom and work-based. There is also a practical work placement aspect of this course that will give you the hands-on experience that you need to step directly into a new role. Once you complete the course, you will be able to undertake a career as a family support worker, community care worker or residential aide, amongst many opportunities.

The Diploma of Community Services will help you develop your skills and knowledge in managing, coordinating and/or delivering person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities. You will learn how to; develop workplace communication strategies; facilitate workplace debriefing and support processes; reflect on and improve own professional practice; and more. This course can be completed in 12 months and is delivered by Kirana Colleges’ Registered Training Organisations; Maxis Training Solutions Pty Ltd RTO no. 91428. The course is undertaken via online learning. Once you complete the course, you will be able to undertake a career as a community services worker, pastoral care counsellor or support facilitator, amongst many opportunities.
